Men's Basketball Welcomes League-Leading Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart

HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU men's basketball (9-11, 3-2 NEC), winners of their last three, welcome league leaders Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart to the Bogota Savings Bank Center this week as the Knights commence a four-game homestand beginning with the matchup against the Blue Devils live on ESPNU.

Thursday's (Jan. 25) matchup against Central Connecticut is set to tip-off at 5 p.m. and Saturday's game vs. Sacred Heart will begin at 2 p.m. with both games taking place at the newly-named Bogota Savings Bank Center in Hackensack, N.J. About FDU

The Knights toppled Stonehill on Jan. 19 in the second and final regular season meeting of the campaign to give the Knights a sweep of the Skyhawks after splitting the first-ever series last season. FDU comes into the weekend having won its last three NEC games after starting league play 0-2 with a losses to Merrimack and Le Moyne. Junior Ansley Almonor filled up the scoring column with 24 points in the Knights' 76-69 victory and went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Almonor recently slid into 10th all-time in made three-point field goals with 145 through two and a half seasons. Almonor is 101 points away from the 1,000-point milestone (899).

Freshman Terrence Brown has exploded of late. The newcomer is averaging 16.7 points a game over his last three outings, including a career-high 17 points at Saint Francis U (1/15/24). Shooting over 50 percent over the stretch, Brown leads all FDU freshmen in scoring and has started each of the last four contests.

Of note, FDU has had 11 games decided by 10 or fewer points this season. In those games, FDU is 7-4.
 
About the Opponents

As of Thursday morning, both Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart sit 4-1 in NEC action to top the league. Both teams rank in the top three in offense among NEC members in league play while CCSU's scoring margin of 8.2 is the most in the nine-team conference. Allan Jeanne-Rose (CCSU) paces the league in scoring, averaging 19.2 points a night, just above Sacred Heart's Joey Reilly's 18.6. 

Central Connecticut head coach Patrick Sellers spent two seasons as an assistant at FDU from 2017-19.
 
About the Series

FDU is 30-24 all-time against Central Connecticut (series began in 1988)... The Knights are 16-26 vs. the Pioneers (series began in 2000).
