BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - One of the most dominant arms in FDU softball history closes-out her four-year stay on the Hackensack with a second-straight nod on the Second Team All-Northeast Conference as
Alayna Savaglio headlines the Knights' 2023 All-NEC honorees. The full conference honors were announced Wednesday afternoon in advance of the upcoming NEC championship.
Savaglio, a Middletown, N.Y. product, came to FDU in 2020 after spending her freshman campaign at Flagler and since arriving on the Hackensack has emerged as one of the most effective pitchers in the Northeast Conference. The lefty ace tossed 26-consecutive scoreless frames to close nearly 80 appearances in the Burgundy and Blue. Sitting with an overall earned run average of 1.85 this season, Savaglio posted an ERA of 1.57 in 12 outings against NEC foes. The two-time NEC Pitcher of the Week posted four shutouts (three of them in league play) and struckout 118 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .200 average at the plate. Sitting with 535 career K's in the scorebook, Savaglio becomes the second Knight to earn two Second Team All-NEC honors.
Joining the fifth-year pitcher on the Second Team are sophomores
Jess DeWitt and
Andreya Flores, the former earning the NEC Rookie of the Year honor last season. DeWitt, from San Diego, earned the designated player slot on the second team posting a team-leading .336 average at the plate in 33 starts for
Chris Foye's Knights. Finishing with an on-base percentage of .355, DeWitt mashed four home runs to tally 17 RBI in her second year at FDU. Being able to support the team in numerous positions, the Second Team's utility spot went to Flores who made 47 appearances in her second year at FDU. Hailing from Orange, Calif., Flores tallied 34 hits seeing time at catcher and the corners of the infield, as well as designated player. In the field, Flores tallied 109 putouts and caught three runners on the bases from behind home plate. Flores tallied 15 hits in NEC play this season.
