HACKENSACK, N.J.- Efficiency was the difference in FDU's four-set loss to Saint Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Terriers complete the two-match season sweep over the Knights.
The Knights got off the runway quickly on their home floor. FDU never trailed after grabbing a 5-4 lead in a set that they won 25-18. In what was one of their best frames of the season, FDU hit it at a .500 clip.
SFBK did not let their slow start carry over into the second set. They were able to wipe away their initial struggles and pounce out to a 6-2 lead. Despite being able to tie the game at 11, FDU was never able to find the same consistency as they did in the first. The Terriers took advantage of this, hitting at a .324 clip and winning the set 25-18.
Late in the third set,
Lorenzo Bonomo found the open floor for a kill that cut the Terrier lead to one at 19-18. The Knights struggled through the remainder of the set however, committing two service errors and an attack error which cost them crucial points. SFBK took the set, 25-21, and led in the match 2-1.
SFBK accelerated out of the break and led 8-3 early in the fourth. Thanks to another terrific performance from
Jamal Ellis Carballo the Knights were able to fight back and tie the match at 13. With the match on the verge of going to a fifth set, SFBK found their footing just in time. They grabbed a 17-14 lead and never looked back. They held FDU to a .207 hitting percentage in the fourth set, which they won 25-23.
The Knights finished the day with 58 kills but committed 21 attack errors. FDU also had 13 service errors.
Jamal Ellis Carballo shined once again with his second-straight 30-kill performance, which ties his career-high and his own single-game program record. He did it efficiently as well, hitting at a .458 clip.
Santiago La Jara also had a strong performance with five kills, three blocks, and an ace.
The Knights return home for the final weekend of the season next week. They will take on Daemen at 5pm on Friday to kick things off. Stream the match on NEC Front Row.
