FDU Shutout Against Red Flash, Drop Doubleheader Friday in Loretto

LORETTO, Pa. - FDU softball (16-18, 5-6 NEC) fell in the first two games of a three-game set to league-leading Saint Francis U (Pa.) Friday, ending a 3-1 stretch in the Knights' last four games. Junior Abbey Hoesman and sophomore Isabella Herring were the lone Knights to produce a hit in both games.

Game 1 Recap

Etching a base runner in each of the first two innings, FDU was unable to get on the board while Saint Francis U posted three of their six runs in the bottom of the first by way of a triple, RBI single and a wild pitch. Hoesman would add a single in the Knights' second though the junior would be FDU's only baserunner in the frame. Cassidy Triska made the start at shortstop and sliced a hit up the middle in the third, though FDU would not have a runner advance past second in the contest. SFU would tack-on three more runs in the fourth, though not before head coach Chris Foye made a pitching change in the second, bringing in sophomore Payton Wagner to take over for fellow second-year Julia Swan.

Game 2 Recap

Both sides went hitless in the first frame of the middle game of the series though it would be Hoesman who logged the first hit of the evening tilt in the top of the second, though she'd be erased on the next at-bat. The Red Flash answered with a double in the next half though nothing would come of the runner, pushing the game scoreless to the third. Going down in order in the top of the third, Saint Francis posted a solo homer in what would be the lone run of the game for either side. Looking to cook something up, Herring logged her second hit of the day in the Knights' sixth, however she wouldn't be picked up as FDU fell 1-0.

The series concludes tomorrow, April 8 at 12 p.m. when FDU faces the Red Flash live on NEC Front Row.
