Red Storm Capture Midweek Win Over the Knights

TEANECK, N.J. - The Knights welcomed the St. John's Red Storm into Naimoli Complex on Wednesday for a midweek matchup and were not treated nicely. The Red Storm knocked in 19 runs on 16 hits as the Knights were only able to muster five runs on only six hits.

how it happened

The Knights gave the ball to two-way freshman Jeremy Cheeseman who struggled to retire St. John's batters; he finished with an line of one inning while allowing eight earned runs.     Evan Stewart relieved Cheeseman in the second inning and was tagged for four runs in the inning; FDU saw themselves in a 13-0 hole heading into the third frame. The Red Storm were able to extend their lead to 14-0 in the fourth inning when Paul Orbon blasted a homerun.

FDU was able to get on the board in the fourth inning when they picked up five runs, however, the deficit was too big to overcome. The big fourth inning got started by Tom Ruscitti who drilled his 9th home run of the season and pick up the Knights first hit of the game. Despite the tough day, Hunter D'Amato was able to extend his on-base streak to 33 games with a single to left field; he eventually stole second base and score on a Luke Cantwell single.

Six of the last seven FDU pitchers were able to toss six one run innings with six strikeouts; Patrick Gardner was the leader of that group when he pitched a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts.

The Knights are back at home this weekend when they host Norfolk State in a conference battle on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on NEC Front Row and fans can follow along on Twitter @FDUKnightsBASE.
