Knights Post Huge Comeback vs. Albany Behind a Cantwell 2-Run Homer

TEANECK, N.J. - The Knights posted another huge comeback this afternoon when they battled it out with the Albany Great Danes. FDU's offense got hot late to give them an 8-7 victory versus the Great Danes.

how it happened

The Knights defense struggled early behind their starter Ethan Rembish; typically sure-handed Joan Sosa posted three errors on the day, including two in the 2nd inning. The errors made it difficult for Rembish to get outs and he surrendered an unearned run in the 2nd inning. The top of the 3rd inning saw Sosa make up for his poor defense when he drove in Luke Cantwell on a single to right field to knot the game at one apiece.

The Great Danes offense pumped out three runs in the 4th inning behind some good situational hitting; they led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th. When the Knights came to bat in their half-inning Brian Sanders drilled a home run to the right-center gap to cut into the 'Danes lead. Brendan Medoro relieved Remish in the 5th inning and struck out the side before faltering in the top of the 6th when the Danes nabbed him for three runs to take a 7-2 lead. FDU put themselves in a hole but were again up for the challenge of a comeback. Sanders and Hunter D'Amato each knocked in runs in the bottom of the 6th to cut down on the Albany lead before completing the comeback in the 7th and 8th innings.

The 7th inning saw FDU drive in two runs behind great plate appearances from Tom Ruscitti and Sosa to cut the deficit down to just one run. The 7th inning ended in a confusing manner when it looked as if the Knights loaded the bases with 2 outs on a Sanders infield single, but were instead called for runners interference ending the inning and the Knights rally. Despite the challenges they faced all night, Cantwell stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 8th and drilled a two-run home run to right field to complete the comeback and give FDU an 8-7 lead. Medoro finished off the Great Danes in the top of the 9th to pick up his second win of the season.
