Knights Rout Eagles 14-7

HANOVER, MD - The Knights traveled to Hanover, MD to take on the Coppin State Eagles for a weekend three game set. Friday's game was postponed and moved to a doubleheader on Sunday and Saturday's game was pushed back to a 3 p.m. start. The changes did not effect the Knights at all who put up 14 runs and and 13 hits in a 14-7 win.

how it happened

FDU jumped all over Eagles starter Liam McCallum when they notched three runs on him in the 1st inning including a two-run double from Tom Ruscitti. The knights did not slow down there, they put together their best inning of the day in the 6th when they tacked on six runs to knock McCallum out of the game. His final line was four innings, seven hits, 10 runs with eight of them being earned. The big 6th inning was led by Brelon Harden and TJ Werner who picked up RBI singles before Justin Sierra emptied the bases on a triple to left field to extend the lead to 9-1.

The Knights gave the ball to Jude Baxt who put together his third straight solid performance going five innings and only allowing three runs. Baxt, who typically pitches the mid-week game got bumped to fill in on the weekend slot due to a sickness in the Knights rotation. Manny Roman only needed to use three pitchers in the contest due to the outburst by his offense. After Baxt got the Knights through five innings, Roman turned to Ian Barrett. Despite walking four batters in two innings Barrett got the Knights through the 6th and 7th innings only allowing one run and move the Knights lead to 14-4. Brenden Medoro was called on to record the final six outs and he did so while allowing two earned runs and striking out a batter.

The Knights had a huge offensive day that was led by Harden who picked up four hits in five at bats and drove in four runs on the day while also picking up a stolen base. Ruscitti and Sierra both drove in two runs and were on base multiple times to help the Knights defeat the Eagles. Unfortunately, Hunter D'Amato was unable to pick up a hit to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.

FDU and Coppin State will be back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. when the two teams battle it out in game one of a doubleheader before wrapping up their three game series at 2:30 p.m. for game two of the doubleheader.
