HACKENSACK, N.J.- On the heels of his win at the Carpetbagger Classic,
Leon Heitz has been named the NEC Golfer of the Week. This is the first time Heitz has captured the honor and the first time this year that a Knight has been given the award.
Heitz fired a -4 to win his first ever collegiate individual crown at Worthington Golf Club last week at the Carpetbagger Classic. This effort also helped his team to an eighth-place finish at the event.
Heitz, a sophomore who reigns from Munster, Germany, has continued to build off a stellar freshman campaign in which he was named the NEC Rookie of the Year. The Carpetbagger Classic was his third top-10 finish of the year, including a second-place finish at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate. Heitz also finished in a tie for second-place at last year's NEC Championship.
"Leon played extremely well in very difficult conditions. I couldn't be happier for him to finally get his first collegiate win and to be named player of the week." FDU coach
Rob Warren said on Heitz' success.
FDU will hit the links again on March 27-28 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia.
