HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball, the 2022-23 Northeast Conference Regular Season Champion has been invited to the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Knights earned an automatic qualifier bid to the WNIT due to them winning the NEC regular season title.
FDU has been matched up with Columbia University in the first round of the tournament that will begin on Wednesday, March 15. The Knights and Lions will battle it out on Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. FDU will be tasked with traveling to Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium to take down the Lions and extend their season.
The Burgundy and Blue, who won a program record 24 games, will be playing in the WNIT for the second straight season. Last year the Knights got the opportunity to take on Seton Hall in the first round of the tournament but dropped the matchup after being outscored 36-11 in the second half of the contest.
The 2022-23 Knights will be led by All-NEC First Team selection
Chloe Wilson who leads the Knights by scoring 17.0 points a game while adding 7.4 rebounds. Wilson picked up five NEC Player of the Week honors this season. Senior
Sierra DeAngelo is another player to watch for with the Knights she scored just under 13 points a game at 12.9 while also pitching in 5.0 rebounds a game. DeAngelo also earned herself three NEC Player of the Week honors and was selected to the All-NEC Second Team.

Angelika Szumilo stated, "The NEC Championship game did not go our way, but we have a team full of fighters who are ready for the next challenge." When asked about the opportunity to participate in the WNIT Szumilo said, "We are excited to represent our conference in this very prestigious tournament. Our team has had a remarkable season and we were not ready for it to end, this group will be ready to battle Columbia with hopes to extend our season."
The winner of this first round matchup will get the chance to play the winner of Fordham versus Drexel in the second round of the tournament.
