HACKENSACK, N.J. - After Saint Peter's closed in on the Knights' 15-point lead, FDU men's basketball (3-1, 0-0 NEC) prevailed in a thrilling 71-70 victory Wednesday on the YES Network in the Battle of the Bracket Busters.
The story of game was the photo-finish after graduate student guard
DeVante Jamison was fouled with FDU down 70-69 with under two seconds left and came in clutch with a pair of free throws to secure a one-point victory for the home Knights in front of a sell-out crowd at Stratis Arena.
Rewinding to the first half, FDU shot 51.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and raced out to an early one-point lead as the Knights led 15-14 in the first nine of the minutes. After falling behind by a triple in the first couple minutes, junior forward
Ansley Almonor unleashed his first three to even things up 42 seconds into the ballgame. Almonor got back on track in his fourth start of the year as the Spring Valley, N.Y. native recorded a team-high 21 points in 32 minutes.
Up nine at the break, FDU's lead would expand to as many as 15 points before Saint Peter's would cut in after a pair of scoreless stretches. With under a minute to play in regulation, it was a three-point game and not much later, the Peacocks would lead by one.
'Bullet' drew the foul call and carried the Knights to victory on their home hardwood.
Next up, FDU men's basketball faces Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. live on NEC Front Row and the NEC on the Run App.
