HAMPDEN, M.A.- FDU (+57) finished 12
th of 13 teams at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse in a three-round event that concluded Tuesday afternoon.
Pyae Phyo Thu (+2) paced the Knights finishing tied for 8
th among 78 golfers.
UConn (+4) won the team event and Connor Goode (-1), a Huskie himself, was crowned the individual winner.
FDU posted a 303 in the opening round of the Invitational, which placed them in a tie for 9
th at the end of day one. The team struggled through round two with a score of 314 that dropped them to 12
th on the leaderboard. The Knights bounced back in the final round with a 304 but unfortunately, this was not enough to move them up the scoreboard any further, as they finished in 12
th.
Phyo Thu put together his second-consecutive top-10 finish. The junior began his week sinking three birdies and an eagle in round one, which helped to finish -2 on the day and had him in a tie at the top of the leaderboard. Despite making three more birdies on day two, Phyo Thu shot +3 in the middle round which dropped him into a tie for 3
rd. He would go on to shoot a +1 on the final day to earn himself a tie for 8
th. Phyo Thu made nine birdies in the 54-holes, which placed him in the top eight of all golfers in that category.
Freshman
Ricardo Velasquez (+12) continued to showcase his potential connecting on eight birdies and playing the course's par 3's at an even-par pace.
