ATLANTIC CITY - The FDU men's volleyball team took down the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in four sets on Saturday morning earning their first official win of the season and concluding their trip to the JBJ Battle for the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, N.J.
The match against Belmont Abbey was the Knights third of the tournament. On Friday, FDU used a clean sweep to defeat Eastern Nazarene College. The Knights put up a .378 clip as
Ethan Young led with eight kills. In the night cap, FDU erased a two-set deficit to overcome Monroe College in a match that went the distance.
Sophomore
Jack Lydon led the team with 12 kills in their victory over Belmont Abbey. Freshman
Dylan McFadden stuffed multiple areas of the stat sheet as he tallied a double-double with 11 kills, three aces and ten digs in his first official collegiate match, leading the Knights with 15 points.
How It Happened:
- Two crucial runs helped the Knights separate themselves in the first set. With the match tied at 10, the Knights surged ahead with a 6-2 run and took a 16-12 lead.
As the Crusaders drew the score to 20-19, the Knights scored four-straight points to take Belmont Abbey out of the set. FDU would win it 25-21.
- The second set was decided by a 7-1 Crusader run that put them ahead 19-15. They would close out the set 25-21.
- The teams split the first 28 points of the third set evenly at 14 a piece. Graduate student Rui Fernandes sparked a Knight run with a pair of aces that placed the lead at 16-14.
- In the fourth set, the Knights took a 4-3 lead and did not look back. They put the finishing touches on the match, 25-21.
- The Knights had 46 kills and hit at a .255 in the victory. They also collected eight blocks.
What's Next:
The Knights are back in action this Wednesday at 11 a.m. in an exhibition match against NYU at the Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center.
