BROOKLYN, N.Y. - At St. Francis Brooklyn's home away from home, FDU men's basketball fired on all cylinders as the Burgundy and Blue cracked .500, moving to 9-8 and a 2-0 start in Northeast Conference Play with a Thursday matinee win over the Terriers, 76-57.
Holding St. Francis Brooklyn to eight points and change below their average of 65.1 points per game, the Knights defense dazzled in the first half with the Terriers logging just 26 points in the opening 20 minutes of play. FDU would also force nine turnovers in the first resulting in 24 points off turnovers, a far margin from St. Francis Brooklyn's seven.
Making 16 buckets in 32 tries from the field in both halves, FDU would finish the game shooting an even 50 percent on the dot.
Graduate student guard
Demetre Roberts got the jump done in the paint as FDU blew the lead to as large as 21 points in the second half. Roberts, the first-year Knight, would finish his day with 17 points on 8-for-17 shooting (47.05 percent) coupled with a game-high six assists. Despite a pair of scoreless stretches down the back half of the second, FDU clawed back and took advantage of miscues on the part of the home side, including a steal off a hail Mary inbounds play for SFBK which Sebastien Lamaute took to the half with a bailout from Roberts.
Seeing 23 minutes off the bench, New York City native
Joe Munden Jr. posted 13 points (5-for-8) while nabbing four boards and handing out three times.
Ansley Almonor, the sophomore big, led FDU's balanced offense with 20 points and a season-best six three-pointers - draining all but one of his seven tries from behind the arc at The ARC.
Returning home on Saturday, Jan. 7, FDU welcomes LIU to the Rothman Center at 1 p.m. live on NEC Front Row.
