LORETTO, Pa. – The FDU Knights (14-5, 6-1) traveled to DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pa. to take on the Saint Francis U Red Flash (3-16, 2-4). The Knights got back in the win column with a dominating 71-45 victory led by 20 points from
Dahomée Forgues and 15 points from
Chloe Wilson.
The game started with another slow start from the Knights offense as they shot only 3-for-10 from the field in the first six minutes of play. FDU's typical stifling defense was back on display forcing four turnovers before the first media timeout. After the media timeout, the Knights offense was sparked by
Ella Fajardo who scored 11 points in the final four minutes; the Knights finished the quarter shooting 7-for-15 from the field and held onto a 22-15 lead over the Red Flash.
Once again, the Knights opened a quarter with the poor team shooting from the floor, just like the first 10 minutes of play FDU only shot 25% in the first 5:30 before halftime. The Knights and Red Flash traded buckets for the remainder of the quarter with the FDU holding on to a 35-27 lead at the half. The Burgundy and Blue forced nine first-half turnovers; however, their defense was not as strong as they have been during the season as the Red Flash shot 46.2% from the field.
Forgues and Carbonell drilled back-to-back shots to force the Red Flash to call a first-minute timeout in the second half. The Knights dominated SFU in the quarter with a 17-10 run led by senior guard
Dahomée Forgues. Forgues and Wilson both scored six points in the quarter to give the Knights a 15-point lead going into the final 10 minutes of play.
The final 10 minutes was a rout by the Knights. They did not let up on the offensive end scoring 19 points in the final quarter. The second half was a showing from the Knights that was reminiscent of their dominating wins over LIU, Stonehill, and SFBK.
- The Knights have a quick turnaround as they take on Merrimack this weekend on Saturday, January 28 at 1 p.m. The game will be at Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center where the Knights will welcome back former players for Alumni Day. Fans can watch the game on NEC Front Row.
