HACKENSACK, N.J. and NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - FDU men's basketball (12-10, 5-2 NEC) returns to action Thursday, January 26 with a 7 p.m. Northeast Conference matchup against first-place Saint Francis U (Pa.). FDU then hits the road for the final of two regular season meetings this season with Merrimack, currently 6-15 (4-3 NEC), on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. on ESPN3 as part of the league's television package.
Facing the Red Flash for the first time in the
Tobin Anderson era, FDU looks to snap a two-game skid in NEC play and return to the top slot in the league as Saint Francis U makes the trek from Loretto for Thursday's tilt. The league-best Red Flash are led by Josh Cohen, the league's leading scoring with the redshirt junior forward pouring in 19.3 points per game against NEC opponents. Cohen was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List - believed to be the first NEC player in history named to the list. The New Jersey native ranks ninth in all of NCAA Division I with 21.5 points per game, while also ranking fifth in field goals made (147), 10th in points (387) and 24th in field goal percentage (60.7) through play on Wednesday.
Leading the Burgundy and Blue is graduate student guard
Demetre Roberts, again an NEC Prime Performer this week, as the newcomer to FDU sits only behind Cohen on the NEC scoring chart with the Mount Vernon, N.Y. product leading the charge for the Knights with 18.3 points per game. Roberts has tallied 128 points in seven NEC games with a teambest 44 made field goals in league games.
Heading back to Massachusetts looking for to notch the Knights' first series sweep of the season, FDU faces a Merrimack team that has won three games in five nights since the Knights emerged victorious at home on December 29, 71-63, the first time FDU defeated Merrimack since the Warriors joined the conference in 2019.
Following the televised battle at Merrimack, FDU returns home to face Wagner as part of Hall of Fame Weekend on Saturday, February 4 at 1 p.m. live on NEC Front Row.
