Knights Rout Terriers; Extend Win Streak to Six

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (13-4, 5-0) took down the St. Francis Terriers (4-13, 3-2) 70-39. FDU shot better from the three-point line than they did from the charity stripe. The 14 made three-pointers were the most made threes in a game for the Knights this season, they were led by a perfect 5-for-5 from Abby Conklin. The Knights defense did not let them down as they forced the Terriers into 18 turnovers on the night.

This nationally televised game began with an abundance of three-pointer makes from the Knights. Celia Carbonell and Dahomée Forgues led the way with one three apiece and the Knights led 8-2 at the five-minute media timeout mark. Angelika Szumilo's defense forced seven turnovers in the first five minutes of play. After the media timeout, the Knights extended their 8-0 run into a 14-2 first quarter of play. Their defense was too much for the Terriers to handle as they forced eight turnovers in the first 10 minutes of play. The scoring was spread out with three points apiece from Sierra DeAngelo, Carbonell, and Forgues.

The second quarter started how the first ended, the Knights forced the Terriers into a quick timeout after an 8-0 run fueled by back-to-back three-pointers from Conklin. St. Francis scored their first points after the five-second mark of the game with 6:00 to go until halftime when Alyssa Fisher drilled a three-pointer. The Burgundy and Blue extended their already large lead when Conklin and Fajardo drilled back-to-back threes to force another Terrier timeout with four minutes to go before the half. The Knights first half offense shot 45% from the field and 40% from deep to have a 38-9 lead over St. Francis at halftime. The Knights stifling defense forced 10 turnovers in the half, scoring 11 points off those turnovers.

The second half started with both teams trading buckets in the first five minutes, each team had seven points. Despite the mini-surge from the Terriers to open the half FDU still outscored them 22-19 in the quarter and nailed an impressive 6-of-7 three-pointers. Sierra DeAngelo scored 11 points in the quarter.

The Knights entered the final 10 minutes with a 25+ point lead and it was too much for the Terriers to overcome.
