Singleton Earns FDU's Second-Consecutive NEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - FDU graduate student Grant Singleton lit up the stat sheet in two road Northeast Conference games last week, culminating with the guard being named NEC Co-Player of the Week, announced Wednesday afternoon. Singleton follows Demetre Roberts, a fellow fifth-year member of the backcourt, to learn FDU back-to-back NEC Player of the Weeks.

For Singleton, the road to his second NEC Player of the Week nod this season went through New Britain and North Easton with the five-foot-eight St. Thomas Aquinas graduate with 20 points in 30 minutes off the bench against the Blue Devils and a dazzling 18-point performance in the Knights' first-ever meeting with Stonehill.

The Sumter, S.C. native crashed the glass on both ends of the floor, grabbing a team-best 11 boards over the two-game trip with 10 caroms coming off the defensive end. Perfect from the free throw line with a two-game total of seven made baskets from the foul line in seven tries, Singleton contributed 12-of-19 shooting from the field (63.2 percent) and laced seven three-pointers with four coming against the Skyhawks.

In the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day showdown against the newest member of the nine-team NEC, Singleton broke the defensive stalemate and popped three-consecutive buckets from behind the arc in a span of just over a minute to put FDU up seven roughly four minutes into the first half. The Knights (12-8, 5-0 NEC) would go on to hold the advantage for the balance of the game.

Joining his longtime teammate in earning NEC honors is Roberts who led the Burgundy and Blue in scoring, averaging 19.5 points per game in two starts. The Mount Vernon, N.Y. product made five field goals in each of the matchups, though against Stonehill he wouldn't heat up until the end with a remarkable turnaround with 18 of his game-high 21 points scored in the second half, including 15 in the final nine minutes of play.

Maintaining their perfect 5-0 record in the NEC through the weekend, FDU is one of just four NCAA Division I institutions with both men's and women's basketball undefeated in league play. The three other teams are: Gonzaga (WCC), Morgan State (MEAC) and Samford (SoCon).

Head Coach Tobin Anderson and the Knights return to action at home inside Stratis Arena on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. when FDU welcomes Sacred Heart. The Knights then play host to Stonehill on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. with both games airing on NEC Front Row. Tickets for both contests and future Knights home games are on-sale now at FDUKnights.com/Tickets.

The 2022-23 men's basketball season is presented by Bogota Savings Bank.
