NEWARK, N.J - After coming off a competitive weekend, FDU Women's Volleyball (3-4) was victorious over NJIT (1-7) in their Tuesday night 4-set match, 3-1.
- Tatijana Fucka lead the team in kills with 12, adding 1 block and 6 block assists while earning the Knights 16 points.
- Sofia Rampazzo was second in kills, also having earned her 6th double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Kylie Nott put down 10 kills.
- FDU was strong at the service line with 2 aces from Rampazzo, Hannah Schmidt, and Emily Van O'Linda.
- Schmidt was crucial to the Knights' success with 26 assists.
Set 1
- After coming out strong with a quick 10-3, FDU took set 1 relatively stress-free 25-22.
- NJIT battled to within two points, but back-to-back Schmidt aces kept the Highlanders down.
- The Knights saw contributions of 4 kills for both Nott and Fucka, 7 digs for Rampazzo, 6 digs for Allegra Rivas, and Schmidt earning 2 aces and 6 assists.
Set 2
- FDU came out with high energy throughout Set 2 leading them to win the set 25-21.
- With the Knights up 17-16, Nott, Fucka, and Rampazzo delivered three consecutive kills to extend the lead 20-16 before closing out the set.
- Rampazzo had 5 kills, with Schmidt adding 10 assists and 5 digs.
Set 3
- NJIT answered the FDU charge by taking set 3 25-17.
- Rivas was strong on serve receive with 13 receptions (.867) but FDU couldn't change the pace of the game
Set 4
- FDU came back blazing in set 4 getting an early 7-point lead (10-3) and keeping that gap throughout.
- With Van O'Linda at the service line, the Knights rattled off five straight points that included two aces to extend the lead 13-5.
- NJIT's squad was out of rotation earning FDU the last point.
"Proud of our team for pulling this match out." Coach David Nguyen stated. "NJIT played some very scrappy defense but it was good to see that we can overcome that. Our blockers really set the pace for the match and helped us get some much-needed points in transition. This is the momentum we needed going into this weekend."
FDU Is on the road this weekend for the Fairfield Invitational to take on Fairfield Friday at 2 p.m. and play two matches on Saturday against Washington State at 1 p.m. and Howard at 7 p.m. Fans can watch all three matches on the Stags Sports Network.
