Coach DiToma Welcomes 2022-2023 Baseball Recruiting Class

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team is excited to announce the recruiting class of 2022-23. With 13 new recruits, the Knights hope to continue this season's success for head coach Rob DiToma's squad.

"Since the time I got to FDU, we have been able to attract high-quality baseball players to come be part of the program," DiToma said. "This will be my third recruiting class to come to FDU, and I am very excited for what these young men can add, not only to the baseball program but to the FDU campus community as well.  I am very appreciative of their belief in the direction of this program, and our future is very bright because of them."  

The incoming class brings athletes from five different U.S. states, including three New Jersey natives. The newcomers consist of 13 freshmen featuring one catcher, three outfielders, four infielders, and six pitchers. 

Cole Vida 
Position: Left-Handed Pitcher 
Hometown: Clark's Summit, Pennsylvania 
High School: Abington Heights 
Vida was a member of the National Honors Society for four consecutive years. He registered a 3-1 record during his junior year with 47 strikeouts, a 2.01 ERA, and appeared in the State Quarterfinals. His projected major at FDU is Biology. 

Luke Russo 
Position: Outfield 
Hometown: Conyngham, Pennsylvania 
High School: Hazleton Area High School 
Russo was a member of the National Honors Society and recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of Hazleton Area High School. He registered a .400 batting average in 2021, holding a .513 on-base percentage with two triples, ten stolen bases, and 25 runs. His projected major at FDU is Information Technology. 

Gary Gill Hill 
Position: Right-Handed Pitcher 
Hometown: Walden, New York 
High School: John F. Kennedy Catholic Preparatory High School 
Gill made the first team in 2021 for his league. His projected major at FDU is Computer Science. 

Anthony Chiappetta 
Position: Catcher 
Hometown: Dix Hills, New York 
High School: Commak High School 
Chiappetta was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and was named Honor Roll Student every quarter. He earned the Sportsmanship Award in 2019 and received the Pre-Season All American Perfect Game 2022 Honorable Mention. His projected major at FDU is Health Education. 

Max D'Alessandro 
Position: Outfield 
Hometown: Mount Laurel, New Jersey 
High School: Lenape High School 
D'Alessandro was a member of the varsity team for three consecutive years, registering a .350 batting average and OPS over 1,000 last summer. His projected major at FDU is Finance. 

Jeremy Cheeseman 
Position: Right-Handed Pitcher 
Hometown: Marlton, New Jersey 
High School: Cherokee High School 
Cheeseman was named Olympic All-Conference 1st team.  

Blake Pitts 
Position: Outfield 
Hometown: The Woodlands, Texas 
High School: John Cooper High School 
Pitts was named Newcomer of the year and an All-Conference winner for three consecutive years. He hit over .350 for three years and was honored as the Baseball MVP during his senior year. His projected major at FDU is Finance.  

Nate Dudeck 
Position: Infield 
Hometown: Swoyersville, Pennsylvania 
High School: Holy Redeemer High School 
Dudeck graduated with honors from High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. He registered a .395 batting average, five home runs, and was named All-Star Conference and MVP BEAST 2022.   

Mark Yanac 
Position: Left-Hand Pitcher 
Hometown: Hazleton, Pennsylvania 
High School: Hazleton Area Academy of Science 
Yanac is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, a Varsity letter winner, and a perfect game All-Tournament Team for three consecutive years. His projected major at FDU is Criminal Justice.  

Franklin Gomez Jr.  
Position: Infield 
Hometown: Bronx, New York 
High School: All Hallows High School 
Gomez is a member of the National Honor Society and won MVP as a freshman for JV. He registered a .448 batting average in 21 games, with 26 hits, 10 RBIs, five doubles, and one triple. 
His projected major at FDU is Business Administration. 

Shane Sax 
Position: Left-Hand Pitcher 
Hometown: Marlton, New Jersey 
High School: Cherokee High School 
Sax is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honors Society, and Principals List. He was recently recognized as the Cherokee High School Athlete of the week. His projected major at FDU is Business Administration. 

Nicholas Mazzotta 
Position: Infield/Right-Hand Pitcher 
Hometown: Somers, New York 
High School: Kennedy Catholic High School 
Mazzotta received First Honors at Kennedy Catholic Preparatory, 2022 Lohud Nine Who Shine, and CHSAA First Team. His projected major at FDU is Business Administration. 

JR Bozek 
Position: Infield 
Hometown: Danville, NH 
High School: Phillips Exeter Academy 
Borek graduated with the Highest honors team in 9th and 10th grade, honors in 10th and 11th grade, and High Academic honors in 10th and 11th grade. He received MVC 2nd team All-Conference in his sophomore year. He was named to the ABCA sophomore all-star game with a .375 batting average. Bozek was the team captain during his senior year, and the New England Baseball Journal presented him as the preseason All-Team honorable mention the senior year. His projected major at FDU is Physical Therapy.
