FDU, boosted by Northeast Conference Player of the Week
Cassidy Triska and four-time NEC Rookie of the Week
Jess DeWitt, looks to take their fourth conference series of the season as we head down the home stretch in 2022. Enjoying some home cooking on the banks of the Hackensack, FDU will continue to continue their winning ways with the Knights going 4-1 in their last five home games at FDU Softball Field.
With the Burgundy and Blue hosting Saint Peter's in a non-conference doubleheader and the Pioneers in a three-game set, Triska's bat heated up at the right time as the junior from Murrieta, Calif. hitting a staggering .625 with 10 hits coming in 16 at-bats. Scoring 10 runs, the Vista Murrieta graduate batted in six runs, tallied 24 total bases and was one of two Knights, alongside DeWitt, who hit four home runs over the five games, including a team-high two in the early game of the twin bill against the Peacocks. With a 1.500 slugging percentage, six of the 5'6 Triska's hits came for extra bases.
Now a four-time Rookie of the Week, fellow California product DeWitt is making a name for herself in the early going of the campaign. The San Diego native and mainstay at second hit .500 with eight hits in 16 at-bats with five coming for extra bases, including her four round-trippers "to the 'Sack." Scoring eight and batting in eight runs, the Patrick Henry alum total 21 bases with an on-base percentage of .556. The 5'7 DeWitt also boasts a five-game slugging percentage of 1.313 and a fielding percentage of .944 following her seven putouts and 10 assists.
"We're looking forward to another important conference weekend series against a good Bryant team," said head coach
Chris Foye. "Our goal has been to try to keep winning each series to keep us in contention for the conference championship and so far our team has done a great job. We have been playing our best ball the past three weeks and we hope to carry that momentum into this weekend against the Bulldogs."
Following the series with Bryant, the Knights (15-13, 7-2 NEC) play host to Rider on Wednesday, April 13, for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with both games airing live on NEC Front Row.
