WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team (7-6, 3-1 NEC) defeated LIU (17-4, 6-1 NEC) 4-3 to end their regular season schedule Friday afternoon at the LIU Tennis Center.
The competition started with doubles play. On court one was junior Alena Kubanova and freshman Namie Isago as they faced Sofiya Kuzina and Valentina Dancenco but fell 3-6. In the No. 3 spot, juniors Amina Lasheen and Shreya Gulia faced Kathleen Jones and Isabelle Boulais and won their match 7-5. Senior Aleksandra Vorozheikina and graduate student Marta Bettinelli battled Elinor Storkaas and Victoria Erechtchenko but lost 6-7 on court two.
To start singles playing in the No. 2 spot, Dancenco defeated Vorozheikina 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Gauri Bhagia defeated Kate Jorjolini in the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Isago fought hard in a three-set match-up against LIU's Compuesto but fell, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6. Lasheen competed at the No. 3 spot, winning a two-set sweep, 6-2, 7-5. Senior Smriti Singh battled to the end and won, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Finishing up singles play was Kubanova at the No. 1 spot, where she won the fourth point for the Knights, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
