TRENTON, N.J. - FDU baseball (19-18, 11-2 NEC) won the first game of the series against Wagner (9-26, 6-7 NEC) 14-8 on Friday afternoon.
How it happened
- The Knights opened the scoring in the second inning. Luke Cantwell scored on an RBI single to right-center by Tom Ruscitti, and then Ruscitti reached home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
- Wagner responded with a run in the bottom of the third.
- FDU extended its lead to 6-1 in the top of the fifth inning. George Rosales scored on an RBI double down the left-field line by Hunter D'Amato, and Ruscitti blasted a three-run home run, allowing Cantwell and D'Amato to score.
- The Seahawks added two runs in the sixth inning and took the lead in the bottom of the seventh after scoring five runs to make it 6-8.
- The Knights erupted for eight runs in the top of the ninth inning, leading to a 14-8 road victory over Wagner. Cantwell scored off an RBI triple to right-center, and Ruscitti reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, allowing Tommy Verga to score. Ruscitti reached home on an RBI single to left field by Brelon Harden, and Joan Sosa's RBI single to left field allowed Harden to score the tenth run. Following a double steal, Rosales blasted a three-run homer, and D'Amato scored the last run of the inning on a fielding error by the second baseman.
Inside the box
- Senior Brendan Medoro picked up the win (2-3), going 2.2 innings and striking out two batters.
- Rosales went 3-4 with three RBIs, a double, a home run, and a stolen base.
- Ruscitti went 2-5, registering a season-high five RBIs, three runs, and a home run.
- Sierra finished 3-4 with a run and three stolen bases.
- Cantwell went 2-5 with three runs and a double.
