WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team (8-11, 3-3 NEC) beat Mount Saint Mary's (6-9, 1-4 NEC) 4-0 in the first round of the Northeast Conference Championship. The defending champions earned the doubles point and clinched in singles play.
The Knights started strong in doubles competition. In the No. 1 spot, seniors Niclas Pietsch and Mehdi Dhouib took the match over MSM, 6-1. Also defeating the Mountaineers on court two were junior Younes Adnane and freshman Justas Trainauskas, 6-4. In the No. 3 spot, sophomore Arjun Sriram and graduate student Moric Budinszky's battled against Filippos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad resulted in an unfinished match.
To start singles play, Trainauskas played in the No. 2 spot sweeping Fisher, 6-3, 6-1. Dhouib played in the No. 1 spot and won 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Fernando Tardin clinched the match in the No. 6 spot with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Sriram won set one at the No. 3 spot and fell short in the second against Zachiotis, leaving the match unfinished. Budisnzky competed in the No. 4 spot against MSM'a Giovanni Abriola, battling an unfinished match. Playing in the No. 5 spot, Adnane won the first set 6-3, leaving the second set unfinished.
