CHERRY HILL, N.J. -The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team (2-5, 0-0 NEC) came up short on the road against the Temple Owls (5-2, 0-0 Big East) 4-0 at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Doubles action kicked things off, as Temple's duo of Stefaniya Surikova and Jamie Wei knocked off junior Alena Kubanova and freshman Namie Isago, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot. The Owls followed that up with a victory in the No. 1 spot as Sena Takebe and Evie Wei defeated the Knights' senior Aleksandra Vorozheikina and grad student Marta Bettinelli, 6-2. Junior Shreya Gulia and junior Amina Lasheen battled in the No. 3 spot before the match was called, with the team tied 4-4, and the doubles point was awarded to Temple.
In singles action, Singh dropped the first match to Yining Tian in the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-2, to go down 2-0. In the No. 2 spot, Kubanova fell to Veronika Kulhava in two sets, 6-2, 6-2, to extend the Owls lead to 3-0. Takebe clinched the victory for Temple as he downed Isago in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-4. Gulia was the only Knight to take a set in singles action, but all three remaining matches went unfinished after the match was called.
