Live Stats
After playing the first two series of Northeast Conference action on the road, the Burgundy and Blue return to the banks of the Hackensack for a mid-week non-conference series with the Peacocks. FDU recorded back-to-back series wins to begin league play as the Knights topped Central Connecticut in two out of three contests spread between March 18 and March 20 while more recently taking out the brooms as the team strung together three wins in North Andover, Mass. over Merrimack sole possession of second place in the nine-team NEC.
Chris Foye's Knights were led by freshman
Sabrina Javorsky who, alongside fellow rookie
Jess DeWitt and senior
Alayna Savaglio, earned NEC Prime Performer recognition for her performance against the Warriors. The California native known as "Sleeveless Javo" led the club with a staggering .600 batting average, earning the start in each game of the series against Merrimack. Recording six hits in 10 at-bats, Javorsky hit for extra bases five times producing four RBIs and scoring three runs herself. Walking once without striking out, the San Juan Hills graduate was perfect as the Knights' backstop, making 19 putouts and earning the assist three times without producing an error.
Also proving her mettle, three-time NEC Rookie of the Week and one-time Player of the Week DeWitt had a great weekend in the Bay State producing a two-run homer in the series finale. The San Diego, Calif. native rocked a .545 average at the plate with a double and four singles. DeWitt produced two RBIs and scored four runs.
In the circle and at the plate, Savaglio has come into her own over the last week for Foye's side. The senior tosser earned two wins, allowing just one earned run in 14 innings pitched (two complete games). Savaglio struck out 18 while walking just one. In the batter's box, Savaglio saw four "at-bats" though she'd walk seven times for an on-base percentage of .727. The Knights' ace tallied a double and a run scored to help power the Knights to three-straight over Merrimack.
"We're looking forward to both playing at home and against one of our in-state rivals," said Foye. "I feel very good about where we are as a team right now coming off a great three-win weekend and we look to continue our hot streak against a very competitive Saint Peter's team. I know my friend Coach [Chris] Stelma will have his team ready to play two tough games tomorrow."
Following the twin bill against the Peacocks, FDU welcomes Sacred Heart for a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April 2, and continuing on Sunday, April 3. Each game in the series will air live on NEC Front Row.
