FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team (4-9, 0-1 NEC) dropped its first conference match of the season to the St. Francis Terriers (2-0, 2-0 NEC), losing 6-1 at the USTA National Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.
The match began with doubles play. In the No. 2 spot, sophomore Arjun Sriram and redshirt senior Niclas Pietsch dropped their match to Gustavo Pinho and Miroslav Cvjetan, 6-1. The Knights secured a win in the No. 3 position as graduate student Moric Budinszky and freshman Justas Trainauskas bested Luis Foix Sotos and Matheus Paiva, 7-6, to tie the doubles match at one. The deciding match went to St. Francis Brooklyn as William Lindqvist and Jan Godfrey Seno defeated senior Mehdi Dhouib and sophomore Younes Adnane, 6-1, to take the doubles point.
In singles action, Dhouib dropped the first match to Pinho in the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-1, to go down 2-0. In the No. 4 spot, Pietsch also fell to Gleb Mityurin in two sets, 7-5, 6-3, to extend the Terriers' lead to 3-0. Godfrey Seno clinched the victory for St. Francis Brooklyn as he downed Budinszky in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-2. Trainauskas lost to Lindqvist at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2. Sriram was the only Knight to take a singles match as he won 6-3, 6-3 to Cvjetan. Freshman Thomas Linley took a set for FDU, but fell in the next two sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Up next, the Knights will come home and face Wagner on Thursday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
