QUEENS, N.Y. -The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team (4-8, 0-0 NEC) lost 5-2 to the Queens' Knights (6-4, 1-0 ECC) on Monday afternoon at the Queens College Indoor Tennis Center.
FDU began the day facing off against Queens in doubles competition. Freshman Justas Trainauskas and graduate student Moric Budinszky defeated Mariano Bibiloni and Tim Ostheimer, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot, while sophomore Younes Adnane and senior Mehdi Dhouib won the No. 1 match, 6-4 to give FDU the doubles point.
In singles play, Queens won five of six matches. Moritz Borges picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over freshman Fernando Tardin at the No. 5 spot before Trainauskas got the lone single win at the No. 1 spot against Kareem Rashad, 6-4, 6-1. Dhouib dropped his matchup against Mariano Bibiloni, 5-7, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Shortly after, junior Taiga Koyama lost to Philipp Uhde 7-5, 6-4. Omar El Shehawey closed out the Queens' victory with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over freshman Thomas Linley at No. 4. The match continued with Budinszkey at No. 3 losing the battle against Lucas Demuth in a three-set match, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
The Burgundy and Blue look to rebound as they travel to Flushing, N.Y. for a NEC matchup against St. Francis Brooklyn, Tuesday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m.
