ORLANDO, FL. - The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team (3-6, 0-1 NEC) defeated Skidmore (5-1, 5-0 NEHC) 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Knights came out on fire in doubles, picking up wins in No. 1 and 3. Juniors Amina Lasheen and Shreya Gulia defeated Ella Provost and Kanika Dhull, 6-0. FDU also gained a doubles win with junior Alena Kubanova and freshman Namie Isago, as they defeated Chanhtel Thongphok and Grace Truong, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point. Graduate Student Marta Bettinelli and senior Aleksandra Vorozheikina completed their match with a loss against Lily Feldman and Audrey Soohoo.
FDU pushed the lead to 2-0 thanks to quick work by Bettinelli. Martha played at No. 6 singles and blew past Provost 6-2, 6-0. Kubanova picked up a victory beating Felman 6-1, 6-3 to put the Knights up 3-0. The Burgundy and Blue secured another win after Gulia defeated Katherine Almquist 6-2, 6-3. Skidmore got its lone point at No. 4 with Grace Truong beating sophomore Gauri Bhagia 6-4, 3-6, (10-7). Isago then made it 5-1 with a win at No. 5 over Thongphok 7-5, 6-1. Vorozheikina earned the sixth and final point at No. 3 in a 7-5, 7-5 win over Dhull.
Up next, Fairleigh Dickinson will travel to Flushing, N.Y. to face St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
