HARRISON, N.Y. - Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis (0-1, 0-0 NEC) fell to 6-1 in season opener after dropping a hard-fought match against Fordham (2-0, 0-0 A10) on Sunday. 

The Knights and the Rams started off the night with doubles competition. Elini Fasoula and Rachelle Yang defeated senior Smriti Singh and junior Shreya Gulia at No. 3, 6-2, while freshman Nanie Isago and junior Alena Kubanova fell to Avery Aude and Carlota Casasampere at No. 2 6-4. Valeriya Deminova and Lorraine Bergmann led 5-3 over senior Alekasandra Vorozheikina and graduate student Marta Bettinelli at No. 1 before the match was called. 

In singles action, Vorozheikina took home the lone point for the Knights in the No. 2 spot. Vorozcheikina was down 2-5 in the second set and came back and won 5 straight games to win the set, 5-7, 7-5, 3-2 (ret). In the super breaker, her opponent defaulted due to muscle cramping.  

The burgundy and blue will return to action with a trip to Bethpage, N.Y., as they take on Hofstra on Thursday Feb 10, before playing at Newark against NJIT on Friday, Feb 11.
