Box Score OCEANSIDE, N.Y. -The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team (1-1,0-0 NEC) defeated Hofstra University (0-3, 0-0 CAA), 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the Set Point Indoor Racquet Club.
The Knights came out on fire in doubles, picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Graduate student Marta Bettinelli and senior Aleksandra Vorozheikina got their first win of the season, defeating Hofstra's Mandisa Walle and Deniz Sayer, 6-1. Also gaining their first doubles win was sophomore Gauri Bhagia and junior Shreya Gulia, as they defeated Kayla Salagnier and Anaanya Bhargava to clinch the doubles point.
FDU pushed the lead to 2-0 thanks to quick work by Vorozheikina. Aleksandra played at No. 2 singles and blew past Kayla Solagnier 6-0, 6-2. Junior Alena Kubanoba picked up a victory beating Deniz Soyer 6-1, 6-4 to put the Knights up 3-0. Hofstra got its lone point at No. 1 with Katherine Kachkarov beating Gulia 6-4, 6-4. The Burgundy and Blue secured the win after freshman Namie Isago defeated Walle 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5. Singh then made it 5-1 with a win at No. 4 over April Sanchez 1-6, 6-3, (7). The sixth and final point was earned by Bettinelli at No. 6 in a 6-3, 4-6, (3) win over Bhargava.
Up next, Fairleigh Dickinson will travel to Newark to face NJIT this Friday, Feb 11 at 4:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Tennis Center.
