HACKENSACK, N.J. – The FDU Knights (6-2, 0-0) come home to Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center to face off against the UMass Lowell River Hawks (0-6, 0-0). The team's battle on Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m. FDU has had a strong start to the season backed behind strong defensive play and excellent three-point shooting. The Knights are atop the NEC in field goal and three-point shooting percentage while also having the lowest opponent's field goal and three-point percentages. This recipe of play has propelled the Knights to one of their best starts in program history.
The Knights followed up their big win over UMES with a huge first-half against NJIT. The Knights came out and hit eight threes, including three from
Celia Carbonell, and forced 11 turnovers in the half to be up 44-18 at halftime. FDU sustained their lead throughout the second half but did struggle at times to defend and score the ball. The third quarter saw the Highlanders outscore the Knights 20-9 where they hit their first seven shots from the field and cut the lead to 14 at one point. The Knights played strong the rest of the way matching the Highlanders with 14 points apiece in the fourth quarter to hold off the NJIT comeback. A big factor in the Knights win over NJIT was they out-rebounded them 44-to-27 and had 19 offensive rebounds. The Burgundy and Blue extended their win streak to three games with the 67-52 win.
- Junior Chloe Wilson is coming off being named NEC Player of the Week for the second straight week. She is leading the Knights with 15 points per game and six rebounds a night.
- Sierra DeAngelo posted her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
- Carbonell drilled 3-of-5 threes and posted 10 points last time out.
- The River Hawks are off to a rough start to the season. They are 0-6 early in the 2022-23 campaign.
- A player to watch for UMass is senior Kaylen Banwareesingh, who is putting up 10.8 points a night and 8.6 rebounds. Including a 31-point outburst against Brown.
- Head coach Denise King enters her 1st season as the head coach of the River Hawks.
