Anderson Records First FDU Win, Knights Score 106 in Wednesday Rout of Mercy

HACKENSACK, N.J. - The first win of the Tobin Anderson era came on Wednesday when the Knights toppled Mercy 106-66 at home. FDU (1-1, 0-0 NEC) jumped out to an early 9-3 advantage and didn't look back with the Knights holding on to their lead for the full 40 minutes of play inside Stratis Arena.

How It Happened

First Half
  • Graduate student guard Demetre Roberts (Mount Vernon, N.Y./St. Thomas Aquinas) got things cooking early, picking up right where he left off from the season opener at Loyola Chicago, tallying each of FDU's first five points against his former East Coast Conference foe. Roberts would go on to match his points total from Chicago with 22 to lead all scorers.
  • Down the stretch of the opening period all Knights on the court contributed, especially in the paint with FDU winning the battle 20-6.
  • FDU's bench stepped up with 21 points in the first half, a mark surpassed in the second by six points.
  • With just over five minutes to play in the half, FDU went on a 13-3 run with senior Heru Bligen shooting 3-for-4 from the field in that stretch.
  • The Knights led by 15 at the break.
Second Half
  • Both of the Knights' first two baskets coming out of halftime were off fast breaks with one each for Roberts and fellow fifth-year Grant Singleton.
  • FDU would carry an 11-0 run with the Mavericks unable to answer back - while FDU would shoot 5-for-6 from the field before the under-12 media timeout.
  • Sophomore Cameron Tweedy was spectacular for FDU as he came off the bench to go off for 12 points in 18 minutes while also tallying three rebounds, two steals and an assist.
  • All 13 Knights that played in the contest scored with junior Pier-Olivier Racine and senior Daniel Rodriguez coming on for some monster dunks.
  • FDU scored 100 points in a game for the first time since February 13, 2020 when FDU scored 106 - matching the final against Mercy - at home against Wagner.
