JERSEY CITY, N.J. - FDU men's basketball returns from a six-day trip out of state for a road game in the Knights' home territory of Northern New Jersey as the Burgundy and Blue get set to face nationally-known Saint Peter's (3-2, 0-0 MAAC) in a non-conference matchup Sunday at 2 p.m. live on ESPN+ from Run Baby Run Arena in Jersey City, N.J. The matchup is the first between these two programs since 2019 as last year's tilt was cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols within the FDU (3-4, 0-0 NEC) program.
Coming off a 1-3 trip to the JK54 Classic facing SIUE, Longwood and VMI and paying a visit to Pitt earlier this week, the Knights are still producing offensively through their first seven games of the campaign as
Tobin Anderson's team averages 82.9 points per game. Graduate student guard
Grant Singleton (Sumter, S.C./St. Thomas Aquinas) had himself a day in the rubber matchup against Longwood on the second of three days of the MTE as the fifth-year transfer scored a Knights-season high 24 points while his partner in the backcourt, fellow fifth-year newcomer
Demetre Roberts (Mount Vernon, N.Y./St. Thomas Aquinas) posted the season-best in dimes with 11 versus the Lancers.
FDU kept Pitt on their toes only down seven at the break though the offense wouldn't click in the team's fourth game in five days, leading to the 22-point differential at the final buzzer. The Knights continued their streak of three or more players scoring in double-figures as three would attain the mark again in the matchup with the Panthers.
After an improbable run to the NCAA tournament Elite Eight last season, Saint Peter's is an entirely new-look franchise. The Peacocks welcomed in Bashir Mason, a familiar name to FDU fans as he came across the river from Wagner where he served as the Seahawks' head coach, in addition to a change-up of the roster which saw six members of last season's team - champions of the MAAC - transfer out including breakout star Doug Edert who now calls Bryant home.
Set to take-on Hartford on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m., FDU then heads to Saint Joseph's on December 3 as the road trip continues.
