HACKENSACK, N.J. - After tallying his first Division I head coaching victory against a familiar foe,
Tobin Anderson and the FDU men's basketball team hit the court for the second-straight game at Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center as the Knights look to move to 2-1 in non-conference play when they welcome Manhattan (0-1, 0-0 MAAC) on Sunday, November 13 at 5 p.m. live on NEC Front Row and the NEC on the Run app.
Facing a subdued but dangerous Jaspers side, FDU dropped last year's meeting in Riverdale by just five points in one of the best games of the 2021-22 season for the Burgundy and Blue. After parting ways with longtime coach Steve Masiello, Manhattan saw an exodus of numerous players to the transfer portal and assistant coach RaShawn Turner promoted to the interim role. Beginning their season at VCU, Manhattan trailed by 18 at the half (48-30) before outscoring the home side by one point to close-out the game (26-25). The Jaspers were paced by double-digit performances from fifth-years guard Elijah Buchanan (16 points) and forward Josh Roberts (14 points).
Manhattan's last game, set to come against Northeast Conference member Central Connecticut was postponed due to concerns with the playing court.
FDU returns home before an extended road trip as the Burgundy and Blue look to go up 2-0 on the banks of the Hackensack and notch their first win both on the season and at home against a Division I opponent. Facing Mercy (N.Y.) on Wednesday, November 9 the Knights crashed the glass, out rebounding the road team 48-26 while four players who know Mercy quite well led Anderson's team in scoring with graduate student guard
Demetre Roberts (Mount Vernon, N.Y./St. Thomas Aquinas) leading the charge with 22 points, six assists, two steals and one rebound.
Following Sunday's tilt under the big top in Hackensack, the Knights will hit the road for four-straight games on one trip, first battling SIUE, Longwood and VMI in the Longwood MTE on consecutive days beginning Nov. 18 before heading to Pittsburgh for a battle with ACC member Pitt on Nov. 22.
