FDU Takes Number Three Seed After Five Set Match With CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, CONN.- FDU women's volleyball (15-14, 9-5) defeated CCSU (12-14,6-8) in five sets (25-16,25-23,28-26,25-15,15-11) on the road at the Detrick Gymnasium for their last match of regular season conference play. FDU will be the third seed to take on number two seed SFU at the NEC Conference Tournament. 

History
  • The Knights broke a 28-year-old record set in 1994 for the most NEC conference matches won with their ninth NEC win in tonight's match.

How It Happened

Set 1 

  • FDU started with an early four-point run at 5-1 and was able to gain on that lead to control the set and end it with an ace from Sofia Rampazzo 25-16.
  • Schmidt, Rampazzo, and Fucka each had three kills for the Knights. 

Set 2

  • FDU led the match 11-7 when CCSU came out of a timeout to earn five points to close the gap. Two kills to seal the deal for the Blue Devils to take the set 25-23. 
  • Vaschetti, Schmidt, and Kylie Nott each had three kills.

Set 3

  • FDU and CCSU played a close set with 10 tie scores. An ace from Tessa Fisk finished it off at 25-16.
  • Fucka hit .800 with four kills

Set 4

  • CCSU went on a five-point run to pull ahead 14-8. The Blue Devils further grew that lead to finish it off 25-15. 

Set 5

  • FDU won set five with important kills from Fisk and Vaschetti followed by a hitting error from CCSU to end the match 15-11.

"Proud of the fight this team consistently plays with." Head coach David Nguyen said. "Our only goal was to make the NEC but we have done so much more. I'm excited for this team to continue writing history."
