NORTH EASTON, MASS- FDU women's volleyball (14-12, 8-2) was victorious in their second sweep of the season over Stonehill (3-23, 1-9) in the Bay State at Merkert Gymnasium. (25-21, 25-21, 25-18.)
- Tatijana Fucka had 11 kills, hit .600, and had four blocks for the Knights. FDU was strong at the net on defense with 11 blocks.
- Hannah Schmidt was a crucial part of the Burgundy and Blue with four kills, 31 assists, an ace and 10 digs on the night.
- Sophia Rampazzo was unbeatable at the service line with three aces and at the line for 20 points.
Set 1
- Stonehill had an early five-point run 6-2. FDU settled in mid-set with two four-point runs to tie it at 13-13. The Knights fought and pulled ahead at 16-16 and finished the set 25-21.
- There were six tie scores and five lead changes making it a close set.
Set 2
- Stonehill had another strong start 5-0. FDU tied it at eight and began to go on short runs to pull ahead to maintain a small lead throughout and closed the set at 25-21.
Set 3
- The Knights played close with the Skyhawks with seven tie scores until 15-14 when the Knights went on an eight-point run and forced two time-outs with Rampazzo at the service line ending it 25-18.
"Our defense was insane today. Blocks were dialed in and defenders were not letting balls drop. We need to play with this type of defensive want every match," head coach David Nguyen said. "We are looking forward to hosting our last home weekend next week and honoring our seniors!"
FDU is home in the Stratis Arena next weekend for two matches. The Knights challenge St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday the Burgundy and Blue host the LIU Sharks for senior night at 4 PM. Watch all the action live on NEC Front Row.
