Knights Fall to Wagner, Turn Attention to Friday's Matchup with St. Francis Brooklyn

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Hitting the hardwood for the second time this holiday week as Northeast Conference action continues, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (1-12, 2-4 NEC) fell to first-place Wagner 95-64 on Staten Island.

How it Happened
  • A single-digit ballgame for the first six minutes of action, FDU's defense silenced the Seahawks as sophomore Joe Munden Jr. made his return to the starting lineup; this was the Harlem, N.Y. native's first starting nod in league play.
  • Freshman Antoine Jacks led the Burgundy and Blue with 11 points. The Greenbelt, Md. product also contributed four rebounds and a steal.
  • 'Twan and fellow rookie Ibrahim Wattara each shot .750 from the field in their final four attempts on the evening.
  • Sophomore co-captain John Square Jr. posted an .800 mark on 4-of-5 shooting in his final five attempts of the contest.
Inside the Box Score
  • The lead changed hands twice in the contest with FDU's largest lead of the game coming with 18:13 to go in the first half, a three-point advantage for the Knights.
  • FDU logged 16 points off turnovers
  • As a team, Greg Herenda's Knights made a season-high 22 free throws.
Coach Herenda's Thoughts

"Wagner showed why right now they are the best team in our conference. They are an old school, hard-working team with talent; we were not ready to match their physicality and toughness tonight. Obviously we are trying to find ourselves right now and it will happen, but tonight was an eye-opening experience for our guys. We will regroup and improve moving forward and grow from tonight."

"We have played just one home game and today is January 17th. It will be nice to have our guys play our next four games at the Rothman [Center]. I know that this group will bounce back and be ready to defend our home court."

What's Next

FDU returns to action on Friday, January 21, for a 7 p.m. NEC battle with St. Francis Brooklyn at Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center. Tickets are on-sale now at FDUKnights.com/Tickets.
