David Nguyen Announced as FDU Head Women's Volleyball Coach

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Fairleigh Dickinson University Athletics Director Bradford Hurlbut announced Wednesday David Nguyen as the tenth women's volleyball head coach in program history.

"We are delighted to announce David Nguyen as our new head coach of women's volleyball," said Hurlbut. "David's energy, volleyball IQ and experience as a part of winning programs on the east coast made him the perfect match to lead our program. I can't wait to officially welcome David and his wife to the Knights family later this month."

Nguyen arrives at FDU with over eight years of coaching experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the Knights family," Nguyen said. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Brad Hurlbut, Senior Associate Athletic Director Jason Young and the entire search committee for having the confidence in me to lead the volleyball program into future excellence."

"It was clear after being on campus that Brad had built an extremely welcoming staff that shares the same vision of forward growth and success. My mission is to provide an exceptional student-athlete experience by being competitive on and off the court. I am excited to take this next step in my career, and I look forward to building a volleyball family at FDU."

Nguyen acted as defensive and international recruiting coordinator with the Chanticleers, helping to guide the team to the Sun Belt Semifinals on a 19-9 record and coaching four All-Conference selections.

Prior to his time at Coastal Carolina, Nguyen was an assistant coach at William & Mary with a focus on defense and recruiting. In Nguyen's first season with the Tribe, the team tallied their most wins in a single season since 2016. He then went on to play an integral role in signing the school's nationally ranked 2020 recruiting class.

Nguyen also spent one season at UVA as director of volleyball operations and four years on staff at VCU as a volunteer assistant where he helped guide the Rams to an Atlantic 10 Championship and NCAA appearance in 2017. In both roles, Nguyen oversaw scouting, film and statistical operations. In addition to his collegiate experience, he served in the club volleyball ranks with the CAVC 17U girls team and RVC 16U boys team.

Nguyen earned his Bachelor of Science in general mathematical sciences from VCU in 2018.

What They're Saying

Jody Rogers, Head Volleyball Coach (VCU)

"David has amazing character and he elevates anyone he comes in contact with. His tireless work ethic, contagious relationship building and leadership skills will prove future success to the Fairleigh Dickinson family."

Tim Doyle, Head Volleyball Coach (William & Mary)

"Coaching is in David's DNA, he's built to lead volleyball teams. I'm excited to see his purpose come to life at Fairleigh Dickinson. They say a team takes on the personality of its head coach. If that's the case, FDU will be known for working tirelessly, and like David, they'll never quit. Congratulations to David and Kaylin."
