Cadengue Logs Clean Sheet, Knights Top Lafayette 3-0

TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (2-2-0) cruised to a 3-0 victory over Lafayette (2-2-0) at University Stadium on Tuesday.

How it Happened

  • Senior Noah Chia opened the scoring in the 5' with a goal thanks to assists from fellow senior Diego Arribas. For Chia the goal was his second of the season.
  • Minutes before the halftime whistle sophomore Jeremy Opong found the back of the net with his first goal of the campaign coming in the 42' of the fixture. He was assisted by Shefqeti.
  • Coming off the bench in the second half was senior Joshua Ferreira who scored his second goal  of the fall 2021 season in the 62' on a pass from graduate student Rocky Garretson to seal the deal for the Knights in their highest-scoring affair of the young slate.
  • Junior goalkeeper Vinícius Cadengue made his first career NCAA Division I start in the match and was one of five Knights who played the full 90 minutes. Cadengue recorded four saves - stopping all of the Leopards' shots on goal in the contest. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native last played in the second half of Friday's (9/3) match against Penn where he went the full 45 minutes of action after the halftime break.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Knights logged 11 shots in the match (five on goal).
  • Arribas took the first shot of the game for either side in the 3'.
  • FDU finished the fixture with three corner kicks - half of Lafayette's six.
  • In addition to the three student-athletes in the Burgundy and Blue who scored in the match, Garretson also recorded a shot on goal.
Coach Roland's Thoughts

"That was a sharp, disciplined and focused performance by the guys. We were extremely professional and poised against an outstanding team that's advanced to the past two Patriot League championship games. Many of our guys were outstanding today - and it's a good game for us to keep in mind moving forward because we should aspire to that level of excellence each and every game. That's not easy to do, but we should challenge ourselves to do so."

What's Next

FDU next takes the pitch on Saturday, September 11, when the Knights welcome in Fordham to University Stadium at 7 p.m. live on NEC Front Row.
