Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Opong, Shefqeti Lift Knights to 2-0 Victory over Saint Francis U (Pa.) on Thursday

TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (3-5-2, 1-0-1 NEC) toppled Saint Francis U (Pa.) (4-4-0, 0-2-0 NEC) by a 2-0 tally on Thursday night at University Stadium. The win provides FDU with their first full three points in the conference table giving them a total of four through the first two fixtures of NEC play.

How it Happened

  • With not much action from either side in the first ten minutes, freshman Kevin Leonhard would get the ball rolling by putting up the first shot of the match for either side in the 13'.
  • An off-target shot by senior Diego Arribas set-up the Knights' attack off a corner kick taken by Arribas which found its way into the box and converted for a score by sophomore Jeremy Opong in the 19' who put up his second goal in as many games. Senior Ideal Shefqeti first headed the ball to Opong and earned the assist to give the Burgundy and Blue the early 1-0 advantage.
  • With just under four minutes to play in the second half, Shefqeti would score a goal of his own, off an assist from sophomore Tony Gomez, giving the Knights' captain his third goal of the season.
Inside the Box Score
  • FDU held the Red Flash to just five shots in the contest - two in the first half.
  • Redshirt Freshman Spencer King earned his sixth start of the season and logged four saves in the bout.
  • Sophomore Hugo Bacharach recorded a team-leading two shots on goal while junior Jordan Alonge shot five times.
  • Opong's goal was his third of the campaign.
Coach Roland's Thoughts

"The guys put in a very professional, complete and satisfying performance against a good Saint Francis U team. From the opening whistle to the final whistle we dictated the pace of the game and were solid defensively and dangerous in attack. Our finishing could've been a little sharper but everyone for us can feel good about having played a very solid game."
