Kosowsky Strikes Out 12 as Baseball Wins 4-1

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Joey Kosowsky's career-high 12 strikeouts and Mike Veit's 2-RBI double lifted Fairleigh Dickinson to a 4-1 win over Merrimack (12-16, 8-8) in game one of the weekend series on Friday afternoon. FDU (6-16, 5-11 NEC) took the lead in the seventh when the Knights pushed three runs across. 

How it Happened: 

1st Inning: 

  • Joey Porricelli led off the game with a home run to right-center on the second pitch he saw. 

5th Inning: 

  • TJ Werner dropped in a single behind third to score Brad Levinson to tie the game at 1-1. It was Werner's fifth RBI of the season. 

7th Inning:

  • After the first three hitters reached and a Merrimack pitching change, Veit doubled down the left-field line to score Jake Ellowitz and Blaise Rantanen. Veit leads the team with 19 RBI. 
  • Werner scored on a groundout from Hunter D'Amato that chopped over the pitcher.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Kosowsky improved to 4-1 on the season. The junior has recorded double-digit strikeouts in back-to-back outings. 
  • Brendan Medoro got the final six outs to convert his fourth save of the season. 
  • Brad Levinson was the lone Knight to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. 
  • Vin Zappulla (3-2) took the loss for the Warriors despite holding the Knights to one run through five innings. Zappulla did not retire a hitter in the seventh and was charged with three earned runs. 

Up Next: 
The Knights and Warriors conclude their weekend series with a doubleheader Saturday at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. Game one of the twin bill is scheduled for 11 a.m., with game two slated to start at 2 p.m.
