Verga Hits First Career Home Run in Defeat

HACKENSACK, N.J. -  The Knights (4-15, 3-11) fell to Mount St. Mary's (6-21, 2-12) on Saturday afternoon 14-3.

How it Happened:

2nd Inning-
  • The Mount had runners on second and third after a pair of singles, and then a double to right-center drove in the first two runs of the game
  • The Knights were able to escape any more danger as a line drive went off pitcher Marc Bisogno's glove and was caught by second baseman TJ Werner who then doubled up the Mountaineers
3rd Inning-
  • The Knights began the bottom half as senior Tony Socci with a base hit to right field. Sophomore Justin Sierra walked and then Mike Veit grounded into a fielders choice, to put runners on first and third
  • Freshman Hunter D'Amato tried for the safety squeeze as his bunt went right to the pitcher and Socci was tagged out at home
  • Junior Tom Ruscitti walked, which allowed Senior James Donlon the plate appearance with two outs and the bases loaded. Donlon earned a walk and an RBI
4th Inning-
  • Mount St. Mary's got a baserunner with a double and then a single to left field extended their lead back to two runs
  • The Knights responded with a run of their own. Senior Brad Levinson singled to left field. After Levinson advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, Sierra, grounded to the shortstop who threw the ball over the first baseman's head allowing Levinson to cross the plate
5th Inning-
  • Mount St. Mary's broke the game open with a two-out rally that saw six runs cross the plate and would not look back
9th Inning-
  • Freshman Tommy Verga blasted a solo home run to right field, his first career collegiate home run
