HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University Athletic Department is honored to announce the Susan L. Capeci Women's Golf Endowed Scholarship.
The gift was established by Susan's husband, John Capeci, and will be given annually to a student-athlete on the women's golf team. "Our family is very pleased that Susan's incredible love for golf, her zest for life and her passion for women's golf will forever be remembered through the Susan L Capeci Women's Golf Endowed Scholarship," said Mr. Capeci. "For more than 40 years, Susan was a highly competitive and talented golfer who exhibited a tremendous passion and commitment to the game. The Capeci family presents the generous gift to the Knights as a stepping stone for women to achieve the highest accomplishments in the classroom and on the course."
Born in the Bronx, Capeci grew up in Bergen County and was a member of the Hackensack Golf Club for more than 20 years. Described by her husband John as a "strong and beautiful woman, both inside and out," Capeci enjoyed spending her free time on the course and was especially proud of a first-place finish at the 2017 Ladies Classic event at Valley Brook Golf Course in River Vale.
Director of Athletics Brad Hurlbut stated, "We are extremely grateful that John Capeci has chosen to honor his beloved wife, Susan, in such a thoughtful and meaningful way. Her love of the game of golf will live on in our women's program through The Susan L. Capeci Endowed Scholarship."
Head Golf Coach
Rob Warren said, "First and foremost, I would like to thank John and the Capeci Family for choosing FDU, and our golf program, to honor his beloved wife Susan. Secondly, I would like to welcome them all to the Knights Family as your name is now intertwined with Knights Athletics forever. I have no doubt Susan would be proud and excited to be part of our program knowing her family's endowment is helping young women lead the lives she had hoped for them. We are eternally grateful and are proud to honor Susan L. Capeci."
In addition to developing her own game on the links, one of Capeci's many aspirations was to encourage her granddaughters and other women to learn the game of golf and compete at the highest levels. "There is no better way to honor the legacy of Susan's love for golf and people than to help empower women to achieve their best in both academics and golf," said Mr. Capeci, who earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from FDU. "The Susan L Capeci Women's Golf Endowed Scholarship will hopefully become a catalyst for others to actively support FDU in the many academic and athletic arenas that exist."
Beginning on April 21, FDU Knights Athletics will embark on the annual fundraising event,
42 Hours of Giving. These efforts help ensure Knights' student-athletes have the resources to continue their excellence in the classroom and within their respective sports.
