TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (2-4-1, 2-2-1 NEC) fell 3-2 to Bryant (2-1-2, 2-1-2 NEC) at University Stadium in Teaneck on Thursday night.
FDU senior
Ideal Shefqeti opened the scoring affair with a penalty kick goal in the 37' following a Bulldogs foul in the box to give the Burgundy and Blue a 1-0 lead just minutes before the halftime whistle. Seconds later, Bryant's Ben Williams found space between the pipes to even the tally at one goal apiece. In the 41', Nick Awanda converted the pass from Chris Ciullo for a score and gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the fixture, 2-1, to take the game into the half.
Coming out of halftime, freshman
Eric Dlabal buried his second goal of the season for the Knights, unassisted, in the 53' to again even the score at 2-2. Dlabal's score was the final goal for the home squad in the fixture. In the 65', Bryant's Barnaby Brandon collected his first goal of the campaign, cementing the victory for the road side.
Knights sophomore goalkeeper and NEC Prime Performer
Spencer King faced 11 shots in the second half and recorded three saves overall.
"We knew it would be a tough hard fought game and it was exactly that," said head coach
Seth Roland. "I thought we might have deserved a better scoreline, but the soccer gods can be punishing especially when you lose focus for a moment or two during important games. I appreciate how hard we battled and hope we can bring that mentality into Monday's game at first place St. Francis Brooklyn," Roland concluded.
FDU returns to action on Monday, April 5, at 1 p.m. when the Burgundy and Blue travel to St. Francis Brooklyn live on NEC Front Row.
