BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (2-5-1, 2-3-1 NEC) fell to St. Francis Brooklyn (5-1, 5-1 NEC) on Monday 2-1 in the Knights' final road test of the 2020-21 regular season.
In the first half of the fixture the two sides battled to a halftime draw before the Terriers' Nicholas Molina scored on a penalty kick in the 68'.
Nearly 12 minutes later, FDU's senior
Ideal Shefqeti scored on a penalty kick of his own to even the tally at one goal a piece in the 80'. With just under nine minutes remaining in the fixture, St. Francis Brooklyn's Khaled Abdella scored in what would prove to be the deciding score in the 2-1 victory for the home club.
Sophomore
Isac Hjerten played all 90 minutes of the match in goal for the Burgundy and Blue, recording eight saves - a season high. Hjerten faced 26 shots in the battle.
"We competed hard against a good Terriers team but, in the end, came up short," said head coach
Seth Roland. "There's a fine line between winning and losing in virtually all our NEC games this spring and starting six freshmen and a sophomore is bound to result in some growing pains. I'm proud of the effort that the guys put into it today," Roland concluded.
FDU returns to action on Monday, April 12, at 5 p.m. in Teaneck when the Knights host Mount St. Mary's in the final match of the regular season live on NEC Front Row.
