Men's Soccer Battles to Double Overtime Draw Against Merrimack on Senior Night

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (2-3-1, 2-1-1 NEC) and Merrimack (2-1-2, 2-1-2 NEC) finished in a 0-0 (2OT) draw on Monday night at University Stadium.

Sophomore Spencer King recorded three saves in goal for the Knights in the 110-minute match. FDU registered the first three shots of the fixture with senior Rocky Garretson recording the first shot-on-goal in the 5'. His ball was followed by junior Joshua Ferreira's attempt in the following minute and freshman Jeremy Opong's try several seconds later.

Following a Merrimack yellow card, junior Ideal Shefqeti attempted a free kick in the 8' but wasn't able to convert.

In the 20', freshman Hugo Bacharach and King teamed up to keep with Warriors off the board with a stellar diving save.

In the second half, the Knights recorded three shots and the Warriors logged five, but neither side was able to cross the goal line.

FDU drew 23 fouls in the match.

Head Coach Seth Roland said, "That was a helluva battle. I'm happy we got back to competing with intensity after a drab performance last game. I thought we looked very good in segments against a very talented and experienced Merrimack team. We could've been up a couple goals at halftime but their keeper was outstanding and our finishing was not super sharp. They [Merrimack] had a couple of chances to win in overtime but Spencer was very good in goal for us. We had a couple of good sequences in OT as well, but just couldn't finish them off. Overall a pretty intense and competitive game."

The Burgundy and Blue return to action on Thursday, April 1, at University Stadium for a rescheduled NEC match against Bryant with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. Fans can watch live on NEC Front Row.
