Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to CCSU 3-0 on Monday

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (2-3-0, 2-1 NEC) fell to Central Connecticut State (2-1-1, 2-1-1 NEC) on the road Monday 3-0.

For the Knights, Monday's loss marked the first defeat in conference play this season through three fixtures.

CCSU began the match with a strong attack culminating in a drawn foul in the box during the 7' which led to a penalty kick converted for a goal by the Blue Devils' Sean Gannon.

While the lone goal from the mark would be all the damage in the first half, the home side would add two more to their tally in the second with the Blue Devils striking in the 76' and 81' as Kyle Halehale and Mitchell Lyons scored, respectively.

Sophomore Isac Hjerten played all 90 minutes in goal for the Burgundy and Blue, recording three saves, a season high, while allowing all three of the CCSU goals.

FDU's senior Ideal Shefqeti and freshmen Eric Dlabal and Patrick O'Dwyer each had one shot-on-goal.

Freshman Jeremy Opong, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week booked two shots, the team high.

Following the fixture, head coach Seth Roland said, "The weather was absolutely beautiful and it was great to be outside. Unfortunately it was not our best day on the soccer field. Our mentality was not as sharp as it has been and the quality of our play was lackluster. We will put this one behind us and work to get back on track for our next opponent."

FDU takes the pitch at University Stadium for their next match on Monday, March 29, against Merrimack at 5 p.m. live on NEC Front Row in the Knights' first home game of the season.
