Men's Soccer Heads to Sacred Heart in NEC Opener

FDU was selected to finish second in the 2020-21 Northeast Conference coaches' pre-season poll

FAIRFIELD, Conn.– The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team hits the road for the third time this season with a trip to Sacred Heart on Monday, March 1, to open Northeast Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Sacred Heart (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NEC) fell in their season opener to UConn, 3-0, on February 16. The Pioneers welcome 11 new members to their 22-man squad. SHU was selected to finish seventh in the Northeast Conference pre-season poll.

Scouting the Knights

FDU (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NEC) was selected as the second-ranked team in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches' poll. FDU enters the 2020-21 conference slate as the defending Conference champions having won the NEC Tournament in November 2019. In non-conference action, the Knights fell to Fordham and Seton Hall on the road, both times by 2-0 tallies.

Coach Roland's Thoughts
"Well, NEC competition is now upon us, and that ratchets-up the intensity because results are paramount. The guys are looking forward to the game and know that Sacred Heart will be a difficult opponent, especially on their home field. We have been integrating a large group of newcomers with our returnees and I think we are heading in the right direction, but there's still lots of unknowns at this point. Nevertheless, I think we are ready to compete hard."

What's Next
Following the fixture against the Pioneers, the Knights welcome Bryant to Teaneck for a 5 p.m. match at University Stadium live on NEC Front Row.
