KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Four members of the 2021 Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team earned All-Northeast Region Honors, as announced this week by United Soccer Coaches.
As a team, the Burgundy and Blue finished 8-7-3, including 6-1-2 in the Northeast Conference, in head coach
Seth Roland's 25th season. Notching non-conference wins against Army on the road and Lafayette at home, the Knights would open NEC play on a six-match unbeaten streak en route to their bid in the 2021 Northeast Conference Tournament semifinal where the side fell to St. Francis Brooklyn.
"I'm very happy to see these four student-athletes honored as being amongst the best soccer players in the region," remarked Roland. "They are talented, passionate and hard working, and deserve accolades for their performances this past season. They set the tone for our possession-oriented attacking style of soccer which resulted in a 6-1-2 conference record and yet another NEC semifinal appearance."
Named to the Second Team All-Region by USC, sophomore defender
Hugo Bacharach earned 11 starts for Roland in the regular season, seeing action in 12 matches in just over 1,000 minutes of playing time. Bacharach picked up three goals this season - including two game-winners - on 12 shots (.500 on target). Following the conclusion of the Knights' campaign, Bacharach was named First Team All-NEC after a season in which he scored three goals (one game-winner) - all coming in conference play.
Bacharach earned national honors during the season, named to
TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week on October 19 after scoring in a 3-3 double overtime draw at Central Connecticut before boasting the Knights' defense to a clean-sheet victory over eventual confernece champion LIU.
Joining the Benicàssim, Spain native on the Second Team is senior captain midfielder
Ideal Shefqeti, also a member of the First Team All-NEC this season. Coming to Teaneck from Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, Shefqeti played and started in 17 contests this season, adding two goals and three assists in 1,533 minutes of work this year for a career total of nine goals and six assists during his time in the Burgundy and Blue.
After missing the 2020-21 fall-to-spring season with an injury, senior forward
Diego Arribas came back stronger than ever, earning him a spot on the Third Team All-Region this season. Arriving in Jersey from Madrid, Spain, the impactful striker was named to the Second Team All-NEC following FDU's campaign. An NEC Player of the Week this season, Arribas earned the Knights' golden boot after the regular season, scoring a team-high eight goals in 17 appearances for FDU (14 starts). Arribas made the television airwaves in New York City following a remarkable bicycle-kick goal in the Knights' 2-0 road win at Bryant on October 10. One-for-one on penalty kicks, Arribas set new career-bests this season in points (four) at Hofstra and goals, picking up his third career brace in the match with the Pride.
A mainstay in the Knights' midfield this season, redshirt junior
Jordan Alonge made his presence known throughout the NEC en route to his First Team All-NEC recognition, in addition to being named to USC's Third Team All-Region. The London, England native, who joined the Knights in the 2020-21 academic year, added his first NCAA career goal at Merrimack in a 2-1 overtime victory on October 3. Alonge added an assist in the Knights' rout of eventual NEC regular season champion LIU on October 17, a fixture won 2-0 by the boys in blue.
