CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Hitting the road for the final time in non-conference action this season, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (0-10, 0-0 NEC) fell to Virginia (7-4, 1-0 ACC), 82-49, Saturday afternoon at John Paul Jones Arena.
How it HappenedÂ
- Junior Devon Dunn posted a team-high 16 points in the contest, followed by fellow third-year Brandon Rush's 14.
- Dunn popped four three-point field goals in the contest, while both the co-captain and Rush finished a perfect 100 percent from the free throw stripe.
- Falling behind 6-0 early on, the Knights were able to claw back in what was the only tied score in the ballgame as Virginia would hold the lead for the rest of the contest.
Inside the Box ScoreÂ
- Dunn attempted a season-high 10 three-pointers against the Cavaliers.
- FDU recorded six steals in the battle, one shy of Virginia's seven.
- The Burgundy and Blue shot .818 from the free throw line, finishing 9-of-11.
Coach Herenda's Thoughts
"To be honest with you - just playing today was like a victory for us. To have a healthy team amid so many other programs that have shut down over just the last few days is truly a blessing."
"As far as the game is concerned, I though we competed well and hung for a while but then one man took the game over. Jasen Gardner literally looked like he had a cape on today. He was unstoppable on all levels all day and really set the time midway during the first half."
"Again, we are improving in intervals but not for complete halves or games. I was very happy to see our entire team for the first time in a long while. Devon and B-Rush were able to get our offense going in the right direction. Today, again, was a great learning lesson for us all."
